Whistler BC is also known as Whistler Blackcomb, and is considered by many to be Canada's premier downhill skiing resort. Whistler is a famous resort town attracting over two million visitors per year. In addition to downhill skiing and snowboarding, Whistler is popular with mountain biking enthusiasts. Whistler is located about 125 km (78 mi) north of Vancouver, BC where international travelers will find the nearest international airport.

Whistler was the host of the alpine events for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. There were a number of quality upgrades made to the resort including an official alpine skiing venue and a new lodge. These venues are now open to the public.

Whistler mountain and valley sit between the Green and Cheakamus rivers and are flanked on two sides by glacial mountains. Fortunately, the major area highway Sea-to-Sky Highway was rehabilitated and widened for the Olympics reducing travel time to Whistler.

This location is excellent terrain for mountain activities.

Whistler offers winter & summer activities

Whistler is a genuine winter wonderland where there are numerous outdoor sporting options including activities such as skiing, snowboarding, dog sledding, nordic skiing, backcountry touring, heli-skiing, and sleigh rides.

Whistler's backcountry tour options are an opportunity to get out and see mother nature in the winter. There's fabulous snow and ice in the backcountry. Whistler Blackcomb offer professionally guided mountaineering, ice climbing, snowshoeing, tele-mark skiing, and snowboard touring.

During the spring, summer and fall, Whistler transforms into a mountain biking mecca. The resorts caters primarily to downhill biking but there are trails throughout the area. For those who are keen to improve their skills, there are bike parks and biking programs.

Whistler's Peak 2 Peak Gondola

Whistler's Peak 2 Peak gondola links the summits of Whistler and Blackcomb mountains. This is the longest unsupported lift in the world. The span of this lift is 3.02km (1.88 mi) and stands at 415m (1,361 ft). The crossing takes about 11 minutes; the trip across offers terrific mountain views.

For skiers, this is a time-saving lift that gives access to both mountain ranges and allows a person to change her mind on a dime's notice. For those who don't ski or snowboard, this is a great sight seeing activity. For non-skiing visitors can take in the majestic views and get a feel for how impressive this resort is.
